How does LoJack work?

A small radio device is hidden inside a vehicle. When a car is reported stolen, the device is activated and broadcasts signals that can be picked up by specially equipped police patrol vehicles. The signals broadcast an alphanumeric signal for a two-mile radius.

This signal includes pertinent vehicle information, the year, make, and model of the vehicle as well as the VIN number and other identifying characteristics.

Does LoJack work with the largest US auto insurers?

Yes! After two decades of success, LoJack has established a number of partner agreements with the nation’s largest auto insurance providers, including State Farm, Allstate, Progressive, GEICO, Farmers Insurance and more. These five companies combined alone, account for more than 51% of all the auto policies written each year, according to the Insurance Information Institute.

State Farm, the largest auto insurer in the United States by far, offers 10% off its comprehensive coverage premiums, for policyholders with LoJack. State Farm may increase these discounts to 30% if other anti-theft devices or equipment is present, along with the LoJack device.

Allstate Insurance, the nation’s number two, offers up to a 10% discount for those who have installed anti-theft devices on their vehicles, including LoJack.

Farmers Insurance, the number five auto insurer in the United States, also offers premium discounts and other incentives to policyholders that purchase LoJack.

LoJack Corporation has consistently offered rebates, generally $50, to customers who insure their vehicles through one of the dealer’s preferred insurance carriers and purchase a LoJack package.

Can I get a discount on my motorcycle insurance if I purchase LoJack?

Yes! In the past several years, LoJack has established a number of partner relationships with the nation’s largest insurers of motorcycles, GEICO and Progressive, which are the country’s third and fourth largest auto insurers.

LoJack also has agreements with the Foremost Insurance Group and Rider Insurance. Those insured by Rider would receive a 50% reduction of their comprehensive deductible if their LoJack equipped motorcycle were to be stolen and not recovered. Is LoJack expensive?

The basic LoJack package includes a one-time charge of around $695. Unlike its competitor OnStar, LoJack doesn’t charge monthly membership or service fees. Upgrades to the system are available at an additional cost. A package with “early warning,” an alarm that goes off if the vehicle is started or moved without the owner’s knowledge and an extended warranty is valued at $1094. The extended warranty by itself is $99.

Is there a downside to LoJack?
