Twenty-one states currently cooperate with licensed auto insurance companies in their jurisdictions by allowing for discounted insurance premiums for cars and other motor vehicles equipped with the LoJack anti-theft device. Nineteen states allow for discounts of up to 25%. The actual discount amount will vary from state to state and company to company.

How much is the average car insurance discount with a LoJack device installed?

The average insurance discount ranges between 10 and 25% of a policyholder’s annual comprehensive premium. Only California and Texas currently allow for greater discounts. Texas allows for up to a 30% discount, and California, up to 32%. LoJack has a complete list of states that allow discounts on their website.

It should be noted that insurance companies are licensed separately in every state in which they do business and must conform to the rules set forth by each individual state. Rates and discounts will vary from state to state, so a thorough investigation should be undertaken to determine the best rates and available discounts in your area.

What is LoJack?

LoJack is a sophisticated vehicle-tracking device, which can be installed in most any vehicle after market, allowing police to quickly recover a vehicle that has been stolen. The manufacturer of this devise claims that 90 percent of stolen vehicles that contained this system were recovered!

The LoJack name was created to indicate the opposite of the term hijack, meaning to steal a vehicle by force. LoJack devices may be installed in cars, trucks, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles. In the last twenty years, LoJack Corporation maintains that more than 250 thousand vehicles of all types have been recovered because of the LoJack system.

Recently LoJack Corporation has expanded its marketplace to include computers and other personal items and is now providing tracking devices for police agencies who are concerned with the whereabouts of certain parolees and probationers.

How does LoJack work?

A small radio device is hidden inside a vehicle. When a car is reported stolen, the device is activated and broadcasts signals that can be picked up by specially equipped police patrol vehicles. The signals broadcast an alphanumeric signal for a two-mile radius.

This signal includes pertinent vehicle information, the year, make, and model of the vehicle as well as the VIN number and other identifying characteristics.
