Esurance built its foundation on utilizing modern technology to reach a wide array of customers. Although the company is now owned by Allstate, it operates independently. Its customer service and claims departments are separate from Allstate’s, and it provides a different set of discounts. Unlike its parent company, Esurance operates entirely online. All sales are brokered through its website, and it utilizes a call center-based customer service department to handle questions and claims. Eschewing the traditional agency model allows Esurance to keep operating costs low and offer innovative discounts that other insurers may not be able to afford.

One interesting program that Esurance has recently begun offering is a discount to Facebook users who “like” the company’s Facebook page. The first discount of its kind, this offers a 10% savings to qualifying customers.

Using Facebook as a Marketing Platform

In many ways, Facebook has become the Internet’s interactive solution to the Yellow Pages. As the largest social networking site in the world, Facebook offers a unique opportunity for businesses to interact directly with customers. Consumers frequently look for companies on Facebook as a way to get updates and information about favorite brands, and savvy companies use various online marketing tactics to lure in more customers.

For a long time, companies have utilized the targeted advertisements offered by Facebook. Many companies also provide coupons and free samples through the site. No insurance company has ever used Facebook to provide a discount before, however, so Esurance is certainly blazing new territory in this regard. Other technologically-savvy insurance companies may follow suit if the program is successful.

How to Get the Esurance Facebook Discount

At the moment, the Facebook discount is only available to Arizona and Texas residents. When a user requests an online quote through the Esurance website, they will be prompted to visit the company’s Facebook page as part of the quote application. Once they’ve “liked” the page, the response will be recorded and the discount will be calculated into the quote. If you’ve already “liked” the page and live in Arizona or Texas, you can call the company’s toll-free number to have the discount added to your existing auto policy.

If the program is a success, Esurance may begin offering the discount to Facebook users in other states. Be sure to check back with the company’s Facebook account and website to see if they’ve begun offering the “Like to Save” discount in your state.

What Other Discounts Does Esurance Offer?

Esurance is generally one of the more affordable insurance companies. Its reliance on technology allows it to keep low staffing and cut costs, which translates to discounts for members. Whether or not you qualify for the “Like to Save” Facebook discount, Esurance provides a number of other ways for consumers to save money:

  • Discounts for single parents of young children
  • Discounts for senior citizens over the age of 65
  • Discounts for mileage under 10,000 miles per year
  • Multi-car discount for people with more than one vehicle
  • Safe driving discounts to people without accidents and moving violations
  • Safety feature discounts for vehicles with airbags, seatbelts and anti-lock brakes
  • Anti-theft device discounts for vehicles armed with car alarms and GPS devices
  • Driver’s education discounts for individuals who enroll in driving courses
  • Good student discounts for high school and college-age students
  • Discounts to customers who pay their premiums in full at the start of term

Depending on your situation, you may be able to qualify for even more discounts. For example, Esurance provides coverage to homes and motorcycles as well as vehicles. Purchasing a policy for one of those assets through the company can qualify you for a discount on both.

Should I Get Coverage With Esurance?

If you already have an account with Esurance, you may want to speak with the customer service team to make sure you’re getting all of the discounts you might qualify for. If you’re not insured by Esurance, it may be worth getting a quote from them. Even if you don’t qualify for all of their discounts, the rates may be lower than those offered by companies with more traditional sales models.

The “Like to Save” program is just one of many innovations that insurance companies are offering to interested consumers, and researching your available choices can help you find ways to save on insurance that you may not have ever considered before. From mobile claims apps to 24 hour customer support, technology enables insurance companies to provide more service to consumers at the lowest possible cost.
